Your oral health impacts your overall health and well-being, both physically and mentally. A healthy smile boosts your self-esteem, and a diseased mouth can harm your heart, among other things. So when you come to our office for your first visit with our dentist, we will review your overall health. For future visits after your initial exam, you can just let us know if there is anything new going on to best serve you.

Once we review your history, we will evaluate the condition of your teeth and gums to find problems and offer early treatment. Timely treatment for tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral conditions can effectively prevent more invasive treatment down the road. By employing dental X-rays to check below the surface, we can find damage to the jaw or jawbone, impacted teeth, and abscesses or cysts.

When anything out of the ordinary is found, our dentist may recommend appropriate dental solutions, like a night guard for night-time teeth grinding (called bruxism), dental implants for missing teeth or weakened teeth, or additional dental cleanings to treat periodontal disease.

If your daily oral hygiene needs more attention, we may advise better ways to brush and floss or recommend a therapeutic mouthwash. The right mouthwash can help with tooth sensitivity, gum inflammation, gingivitis, chronic bad breath, and cavity prevention.

And finally, we will deep clean your teeth with tools designed to scrape plaque and tartar deposits off your gum line and below the gumline, and then floss and polish your teeth.

Regularly seeing your dentist will help your smile remain healthier for years to come. To schedule a dental cleaning with our dentist, Dr. Shelly Galvin, please call Westwood Dental in Kansas City, Kansas, at 913-432-0765 today.
