Unfortunately, your smile can be affected while you’re sick if you don’t take good care of it. This is why our dentists, Dr. Shelly Galvin and Dr. Kritika Thomas, encourage you to do everything you can to clean and care for your teeth and gums while you rest and recover. That way you won’t have to worry about problems other than a cough, runny nose and sore throat. To help you keep your smile in tip-top shape while you’re sick, our dentist has some tips for you. Those tips are:

-Brush and floss often: Brushing and flossing are very important, so make sure to brush twice a day (every morning and night) and floss daily. These things can remove the bacteria, plaque and food from your mouth to help you maintain a top-notch smile. So, please make brushing and flossing a priority. Once you recover, please replace your toothbrush with a new one.

-Drink a lot of liquid: If you drink water throughout the day, you frequently wash your mouth from the harmful substances that threaten it. You also moisten your mouth and prevent dry mouth, which is a problem that promotes cavities and even odorous breath. So, keep a water bottle with you and sip on it when possible.

-Choose sugar-free medication: Taking sugar-free medication instead of sugary medication can help you prevent cavity growth. However, sometimes you don’t have the choice of taking sugar-free medication. If this is the case for you, make sure to rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth quickly after taking it.
