Are you a senior who wants to keep your natural teeth? If so, our Westwood Dental dental team is happy to help you achieve that smile goal! There are things you can do on a regular basis to keep your smile in tip-top shape, and those things are:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Do your best to brush your teeth, floss your smile, and rinse your mouth each day. It’s recommended to brush twice a day and floss and rinse daily. When you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush. When you floss, use a product of your choice. When you rinse, use a wash that will prevent tooth decay and plaque buildup.

-Use fluoride: Fluoride is a beneficial mineral that will strengthen and nourish your smile every chance it gets. We need fluoride each and every day so we can prevent tooth decay and other dental issues. However, many of us don’t receive the amount of fluoride we truly need. So, make sure you take advantage of our fluoride treatment when you come into our office as well as use fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash every day at home.

-Have a balanced diet: Eating healthy foods won’t just improve the health of your overall body, but it will also help you strengthen your chompers. So, it’s best to keep a balanced diet as much as possible by eating more fruits and vegetables and by limiting snacking throughout the day.

-Quit smoking: Smoking is a dangerous and destructive habit that can alter the health of your entire body, including your mouth. If you smoke, you have a high chance of developing cancer as well as gum disease, tooth decay, and tooth loss.

-Visit your dentist: Dental exams and cleanings are vital for a successful oral health, which is why we strongly recommend keeping up with your checkups every six months. These appointments will give our dental team the chance to deeply clean your smile and prevent dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease.
